Fred has awakened but is very groggy. When he's not still sleeping, he's warming his shell in the sun. Fred is a twenty year old Mojave Desert Tortoise (gopherus agassizii). He is a rescued tortoise and is protected by the Federal Endangered Species Act of 1973. He was first adopted in 1989 by my mother. He was still a hatchling less than a year old. I adopted him after her death in 2000.

There have been two whales, a mother and her baby, swimming around the delta waters outside of the San Francisco Bay. They swam up to the Sacramento River deep water channel and are still confused of their whereabouts. I hope the rescue efforts work.Check it out here
