My Springtime Starts Now

Fred has awakened but is very groggy. When he's not still sleeping, he's warming his shell in the sun. Fred is a twenty year old Mojave Desert Tortoise (gopherus agassizii). He is a rescued tortoise and is protected by the Federal Endangered Species Act of 1973. He was first adopted in 1989 by my mother. He was still a hatchling less than a year old. I adopted him after her death in 2000. My mother was native american and had some pretty far out beliefs about Fred's spirituality. I'm kind of sceptic because I don't know much about that sort of stuff.
